Mold behind wardrobe: DIY bleach or professional removal?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots forming on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah Park. With the humidity lately, it’s gotten worse, and I’m worried about our health. Is this something I can tackle with a bleach spray from the supermarket, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold removal company?

Based on the description of black spots spreading behind a wardrobe in Jumeirah Park, this is a significant moisture issue that requires a professional approach. The humid Dubai climate, combined with potential condensation from year-round AC use and lack of air circulation behind furniture, creates a perfect environment for mold growth.

Using a supermarket bleach spray is not recommended. Bleach is a surface-level biocide that does not address the root moisture problem. More critically, it is primarily water, which can actually feed the mold growing within the porous drywall or plaster, causing it to return stronger. Bleach also fails to neutralize the allergenic and toxic mold spores and fragments, leaving a health hazard.

For a situation like this, a professional inspection is absolutely warranted. Our certified inspectors use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to identify the exact source of the moisture intrusion—whether it's a hidden pipe leak, condensation, or capillary action from the slab. We then take air and surface samples to identify the mold species, which is crucial for determining the correct remediation protocol and for health reasons.

The remediation process we employ at Saniservice is comprehensive. It involves isolating the area with negative air pressure to prevent cross-contamination, safely removing the affected materials, and using EPA-approved, specialized antimicrobial agents to eliminate the mold at its roots. Finally, we use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air scrubbers to restore the environment to a safe, dry state.

For your health and to ensure the problem is solved permanently, do not attempt a DIY fix. Contact our specialists for a thorough assessment. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
