Mold behind wardrobe in Dubai: who to call first?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah. I think it might have been there a while, but we only saw it after moving the furniture to rearrange the room. What's the best way to handle this in Dubai – should I call the building management first or get a professional mold removal company myself?

Call your building management first. Dubai regulations often place responsibility for structural moisture issues, like leaks from AC condensation lines or seepage from external walls, on the property owner. They should send their maintenance team to identify and fix the source of the moisture, which is the critical first step.

Until the leak is repaired, any cleaning is temporary. The black spots spreading behind the wardrobe indicate a persistent moisture problem, common here due to high humidity and year-round AC use causing condensation. Do not attempt to clean it with bleach yourself, as this can spread spores and only lightens the colour without addressing the root cause.

Once building management has documented and repaired the moisture source, then consider a professional assessment. A reputable indoor health company can conduct surface sampling to identify the mold type and provide a protocol for safe removal, which is advised for a colony of that size and age. They should verify the cleanup with post-remediation testing to ensure it was handled correctly.
