Mold behind wardrobe in JVC: landlord or hire inspector?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah Village Circle. It’s been extra humid lately and I’m worried it’s mold. What’s the best way to get a professional mold inspection done here, and should I be dealing with my landlord or just hiring someone myself?

Black spots spreading behind furniture in JVC during humid weather are almost certainly mold, as this area's high humidity and constant AC use create ideal conditions for growth through condensation.
You should notify your landlord in writing immediately, as per Dubai rental law (Law No. 26 of 2007). The landlord is generally responsible for resolving issues related to the building's structure and maintenance, including dampness and mold resulting from it. Provide clear photos and request a professional inspection. Do not attempt to clean it yourself, as improper handling can spread spores and make the problem worse. For a professional inspection, hire a certified company that uses a moisture meter and thermal imaging to find the hidden moisture source—this is critical, as just cleaning the visible mold is ineffective if the leak or condensation issue isn't fixed. A proper inspection should include air and surface sampling sent to an accredited microbiology lab to identify the species, which determines the health risk and required remediation protocol. This lab report provides concrete evidence for your landlord and ensures the correct solution is applied. If your landlord is unresponsive, you can hire an inspector yourself to get a professional report, which strengthens your case. The Dubai Municipality can also be contacted if the landlord fails to address a legitimate health and safety issue. |
