Mold in AC duct: DIY fix or professional cost in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The AC vent in our master bedroom in Jumeirah Park Villa has been blowing out a weird, damp smell for the last month. I finally took the cover off and found what looks like a black, dusty patch spreading on the inside of the duct and the wall behind it. I'm worried it's black mold, especially with my allergies acting up. What's the realistic cost range for a professional mold remediation company here to clean the AC ducts and treat the wall, and is this a complete DIY disaster waiting to happen?

A professional inspection is strongly recommended for visible growth in the duct and on the wall. The damp smell and your allergy symptoms are significant indicators that this is a larger contamination issue. In Dubai's climate, AC systems constantly battle high humidity, and this condensation inside ducts creates the perfect environment for mold to thrive.

This is generally not a DIY project. Disturbing the growth without proper containment can release a large number of spores into your bedroom, potentially worsening your allergies and spreading the problem. Effective remediation requires isolating the area with physical barriers, using HEPA filtration to capture airborne spores, and applying professional-grade biocides to treat the root cause inside the ductwork and on the wall surface.

The cost for professional remediation is variable and depends entirely on the scale of contamination. For a single vent and immediate surrounding area, the scope is smaller, but the price is influenced by the need for specialized equipment, certified technicians, and lab analysis to confirm the mold type and verify it has been removed after cleaning. You should request a detailed, on-site assessment from a company that provides a clear scope of work and can show proof of relevant certifications, as this is the only way to get an accurate quote for your specific situation.
