Mold in bathroom: DIY or call a proffesional?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed black spots spreading in the corners of our master bathroom in our Jumeirah Village Circle apartment. It's definitely worse after showers and the grout is starting to look stained. Is this something I can handle myself with a spray from ACE Hardware, or should I just call a professional? What's the typical cost range for a proper mold remediation job for a standard bathroom here?

Small black spots spreading on grout after showers are common in Dubai bathrooms due to high humidity and condensation. For surface mold covering less than one square meter, a DIY approach with a dedicated mold remover from ACE Hardware can be effective. Look for products containing chlorine-based cleaners or hydrogen peroxide. Always wear gloves and ensure the room is well-ventilated during application.
However, if the staining persists after two cleaning attempts or the mold has penetrated deeply into the grout or appears behind silicone seals, the issue is likely subsurface. In Dubai's climate, this often means there is persistent moisture behind the tiles feeding the growth. Scrubbing surface mold in this case will not solve the underlying problem. For recurring or widespread mold, a professional assessment is recommended to identify the moisture source, which could be inadequate sealing, cracked grout, or a ventilation issue. Remediation for a standard bathroom typically involves isolating the area, removing affected materials like grout or sealant, applying antimicrobial agents, and addressing the root cause of humidity. The final cost is highly dependent on the extent of the damage and the required repairs, so it's best to request an on-site evaluation for an accurate scope of work. |
