Mold in bathrooms here is extremely common due to the high humidity and constant air conditioning use, which creates condensation. You should be looking for visible black, green, or brown splotches, a persistent musty smell, and any signs of water damage like peeling paint or warped cabinetry, as these indicate a moisture source.

For small surface patches (under 10 sq. ft.), you can often handle it yourself. Scrub with a detergent solution, but avoid bleach as it only removes the colour and not the root structure. The key is to control humidity; run the bathroom exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after every shower and wipe down wet tiles and glass to remove standing water.

Call a professional inspector if the mold covers a large area, keeps returning quickly after cleaning, or if you discover it behind cabinets, under sinks, or inside wall cavities. This suggests a hidden leak or a serious condensation issue that needs to be identified and fixed at the source. Professionals use moisture meters and thermal imaging to find these hidden problems. If anyone in the home experiences worsened allergy symptoms, sinus congestion, or respiratory irritation that seems linked to the bathroom, a professional assessment and potential lab testing of the mold species is also recommended to understand the health risk.
