Mold in Dubai closet: DIY clean or call professional?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom closet on the outside wall has started smelling really damp, and I just found a few black spots on a couple of my leather bags. It's been super humid the last few weeks and I'm worried it's spreading. Should I try to clean this myself with vinegar or something, or is it time to call in a professional mold inspector in Dubai?

Based on your description of a damp smell, visible black spots on leather, and its location on an outside wall during a period of high humidity, this is a situation that warrants a professional mold inspection in Dubai. The UAE's climate, characterized by extreme humidity and the constant use of air conditioning, creates a perfect environment for mold growth, especially in areas prone to condensation like external walls and closets.

Attempting a DIY clean with vinegar is not recommended. Vinegar is ineffective against many mold species and will only address surface discoloration, not the underlying moisture problem or the root system (hyphae) within the building materials. Disturbing the mold by cleaning can also aerosolize spores, potentially spreading the contamination to other areas of your bedroom and HVAC system, which poses a health risk.

A certified inspector will conduct a comprehensive assessment. This includes using moisture meters to identify the source of water intrusion (likely condensation from the temperature differential on the outside wall or a minor leak), thermal imaging cameras to see the extent of moisture spread within the wall cavity, and air and surface sampling to identify the specific mold species. This data is crucial for determining the correct remediation protocol, as per UAE health and safety guidelines.

For a definitive diagnosis and a safe, effective solution, I strongly recommend contacting a professional service. Saniservice's certified experts are equipped to handle this precisely, ensuring the mold is removed correctly and the moisture source is eliminated to prevent recurrence.
