Mold in Dubai villa: DIY or pro, and cost?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a huge patch of black mold in the back of the wardrobe in our master bedroom, probably from a hidden AC leak. It's spread to some of our clothes and the smell is really strong. I'm worried about the health risks for my family, but I have no idea what a professional mold remediation service would even cost here. Is this a DIY job with bleach, or should I definitely call a pro, and what's a rough price range I should expect for a single room?

That black mold in your wardrobe is a serious concern, especially with the strong smell indicating active growth. In Dubai's climate, where high humidity and constant AC use create ideal conditions for mold, a hidden leak is a common culprit. This is not a job for DIY bleach, as it only removes surface discoloration and cannot address the moisture source or the spores embedded in porous materials like drywall and wood.

For a large patch with a musty odor and spread to contents, professional remediation is strongly advised. The process involves identifying and repairing the AC leak, isolating the contaminated area, removing affected materials, and using HEPA filtration to clean the air. The cost for a single room varies significantly based on the extent of the spread behind walls and the required repairs, but you should expect an investment for proper, science-driven remediation.

Always request a detailed assessment and a scope of work that includes post-remediation verification to confirm the environment has been returned to a healthy state. Reputable providers in Dubai should be able to explain their process and provide documentation, not just a quick fix. For your family's health, treating the root cause is the only effective solution.
