Mold in Dubai villa: DIY or proffesional cleanup cost?« Back to Previous Page
|
Our bedroom in our Jumeirah villa has had this musty smell for weeks, and I finally pulled the wardrobe away from the wall to find a big patch of black mold, probably from the humidity. It's a decent-sized area, maybe two feet wide, and seems to be on both the wall and the back of the furniture. We've been here five years and never had an issue before. For a mold problem this size in Dubai, should I just handle the cleanup myself with bleach, or is this a job for a professional company, and what kind of cost am I looking at?

Given the size and location (on both the wall and furniture), a professional assessment is strongly recommended for a villa in Jumeirah. The humidity here can cause mold to penetrate porous materials like drywall and wood, making a surface-level DIY clean ineffective at addressing the root cause.
For a patch that size, DIY with bleach is not advisable. Bleach can set the stains and its high water content can feed the mold deeper into the wall. It also fails to address airborne spores. Professional remediation involves isolating the area, using HEPA filtration to capture spores, and applying specialized antimicrobials that penetrate to destroy the growth at its root. The cost is driven by the scope of contamination, not just the visible patch. A proper assessment determines if the wall cavity is affected, which is common when furniture is placed against an exterior wall in our climate. Year-round AC use can create condensation points that lead to hidden moisture. Expect pricing to be based on containment setup, labor for removal of contaminated materials like drywall, and HEPA air scrubbing. Request an onsite inspection from a company that can provide a detailed scope of work and explain their moisture source investigation. This is the only way to get an accurate estimate. Avoid any service that offers a fixed price without seeing the job. |
