Mold in Jumeirah Park villa causing family cough?« Back to Previous Page
|
My kids have been coughing non-stop since we got back from summer vacation, and I'm starting to panic. I noticed a few black speckles behind our wardrobe in the master bedroom, which is right next to their room in our Jumeirah Park villa. The AC has also been making a weird damp smell for a while now. Could this be mold, and how do I find a reliable company to do a proper inspection and tell me how bad it is?

The symptoms and signs you describe strongly suggest a mold issue. The combination of persistent coughing in children, visible black speckles, and a damp smell from the AC is a classic indicator. In Dubai's climate, with high humidity and year-round AC use, condensation inside walls and ductwork is common, creating ideal conditions for mold growth, especially after a long vacancy during the summer.
You need a professional inspection. A proper assessment involves more than a visual check; it should include moisture mapping to find the water source and air/surface sampling to identify the mold species and spore count throughout your home. This data is crucial to understand the risk level and scope of remediation. When looking for a reliable company, prioritize those with their own accredited microbiology lab. This ensures they can provide you with verifiable, documented lab results, not just a visual opinion. Ask if their inspectors hold certifications like CMI or IICRC. Any reputable inspector will provide a detailed report with the findings and a clear remediation protocol, which is often required by landlords or property management for rectification work. Avoid companies that immediately offer to do both inspection and remediation, as this is a conflict of interest. |
