Mold in Jumeirah villa closet: proffesional cost estimate?« Back to Previous Page

Our bedroom closet on the outside wall has developed black speckled mold, probably from the humidity. We’re in a villa in Jumeirah and I first spotted it after the heavy dew last week. I tried wiping it with vinegar but it came back darker in just a few days. For a small closet area like this, are we talking a few hundred dirhams for a professional, or is this a bigger job that might cost thousands?

For a small, contained area like a closet, professional mold remediation typically does not reach thousands of dirhams. You're likely looking at a few hundred to just over a thousand AED, depending on the extent behind the surface and the required containment.

The key issue is the moisture source. In Jumeirah villas, this is often condensation from the temperature difference between the air-conditioned room and the humid exterior wall, a common Dubai-specific problem. Simply wiping the surface is ineffective because the mold roots (hyphae) penetrate the material. A proper remediation involves identifying the condensation point, isolating the area, removing contaminated materials if necessary, and using professional-grade biocides to treat the structure.

Given it returned after a DIY attempt, a professional inspection is wise to assess the wall's condition. Reputable companies provide a detailed scope of work and cost estimate after this assessment. For your peace of mind, ensure they follow DM guidelines and can provide before-and-after testing to verify the treatment's success.
