Mold in Jumeirah Village Circle AC: DIY or Pro? Cost?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle seems to be blowing out a weird, damp odor and I’ve just spotted some black speckles around the vent in the master bedroom. It’s been getting worse since the humidity really kicked in a couple of weeks ago. I’m worried it’s affecting our health, but I have no idea what it costs to get a professional mold inspection and remediation here. Is this a DIY job with bleach, or should I absolutely call a company, and what’s a reasonable price to expect for a two-bedroom apartment?

Based on your description of a damp odor and visible black speckles around the AC vent in JVC, this is a classic presentation of a mold issue, exacerbated by the current high humidity levels in Dubai. The condensation from constant AC operation provides the perfect moisture source for mold growth within the ductwork and drip pans.

This is absolutely not a DIY job. Using bleach is ineffective for porous surfaces like drywall and AC components, and it can be dangerous, releasing harmful fumes without addressing the root moisture problem. Disturbing the mold by cleaning the vent yourself can aerosolize spores, spreading the contamination throughout your apartment and potentially worsening health effects.

For a proper assessment, a professional inspection involving moisture meters, thermal imaging, and air/surface sampling is required to determine the extent of the contamination. In the UAE, remediation must adhere to strict guidelines to ensure complete removal and prevent recurrence.

For a two-bedroom apartment in JVC, a comprehensive inspection and testing service typically ranges from AED 1,500 to AED 2,500. If remediation is needed, the cost depends on the affected area but generally starts from AED 4,000 upwards. This is a worthwhile investment to protect your property and health.
