Mold in Jumeirah Village Circle AC: Hire a pro?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle has been blowing out a damp, earthy smell for the last couple of weeks, and I just found patches of black mold around the air vent in the master bedroom. I’ve tried wiping it with vinegar, but it came right back. For a job like this in a high-rise, should I just hire a professional mold remediation company, and roughly how much am I looking at for an inspection and clean-up?

Yes, you should hire a professional. Given the visible regrowth after cleaning and the systemic earthy smell, the mold is likely established deep within the AC unit or ductwork, which is common in Dubai's climate due to constant condensation inside AC systems.

For a high-rise in JVC, a proper remediation involves more than surface cleaning. It requires isolating the vent, using HEPA vacuums to prevent spores from spreading into your living space, and addressing the moisture source inside the unit. Professionals have the equipment to access and clean the internal evaporator coil and drain pan, which are the usual culprits for this smell and subsequent mold growth.

Cost is variable and depends on the extent of the contamination and how many units are affected. A basic inspection and clean for a single AC unit often starts at a few hundred dirhams, but if the ductwork requires cleaning, the price will be higher. Always request a detailed assessment and quote first. Any reputable company should provide a scope of work that explains exactly what they will do and should be able to provide before-and-after evidence of the cleanup, such as lab test results or detailed photos.
