Mold in toddler's room after repairs, who to call?« Back to Previous Page

Our building did some external repairs a couple of months ago, and ever since, I’ve noticed small patches of black mold growing in the corner of my son’s bedroom closet. The AC unit is on that wall and it’s started to smell damp when it runs. With my toddler sleeping in there, I’m really worried about his health. Can anyone recommend a reliable and thorough mold removal company that can also check for hidden mold in the AC system?

The damp smell and visible mold after repairs are significant red flags, especially with a toddler in the room. The external work likely disrupted the building's moisture barrier, and the AC unit on that wall is now pulling in humid air, causing condensation and mold growth inside the wall cavity and potentially the ductwork.

In Dubai's climate, where AC runs year-round, this creates a persistent damp environment mold thrives in. For a situation involving hidden moisture and HVAC systems, a standard cleaner is insufficient. You need a professional inspection from a company that uses thermal imaging and borescopes to locate the moisture source and hidden growth within the wall and AC system. The most reliable firms will have their own microbiology lab to identify the mold species from tape or swab samples, which is crucial for understanding the health risk and planning the correct remediation.

Look for a provider certified by a recognized body like the IICRC and ensure their process includes containment of the affected area, HEPA-filtered air scrubbers, and a detailed post-remediation verification report with lab results. This is the only way to confirm the mold and its food source (the moisture) have been properly addressed. For your child's safety, avoid occupying the room until an assessment is complete.
