Mold inspection for coughing kids in Jumeirah Park??« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it might be mold. We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah Park. It’s gotten worse since the weather got more humid last month. What’s the best way to get a proper mold inspection done here, and should I be calling a cleaning company or a specialist first?

Call a specialist for inspection first, not a cleaning company. A proper inspection identifies the mold type and source, which is critical when health symptoms are involved. Cleaning first can disturb spores and spread them without fixing the underlying moisture problem causing the growth.

In Dubai's climate, high humidity and constant AC use create ideal conditions for mold behind furniture where air doesn't circulate, like your wardrobe. The wall is likely cold from the AC, causing condensation to form behind it and feed the mold. An inspection should include moisture mapping to find the exact source of water and air quality testing to check spore counts in the bedroom.

Look for a provider that uses a certified mold inspector and has its own microbiology lab. This allows them to take surface and air samples, analyze them to identify the species (like whether it's the more problematic Stachybotrys or common Cladosporium), and provide a detailed remediation protocol. This evidence-based report is what you need, especially with children coughing.

After the inspection and lab report, a qualified remediation company can then execute the precise removal plan. The Dubai Municipality has guidelines for indoor air quality, and a proper specialist will ensure the process aligns with them. For a case with visible growth and health symptoms, a professional assessment is strongly recommended over a DIY approach.
