Mold on bedroom wall: DIY bleach or professional in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our wardrobe in the master bedroom. It’s gotten worse since the weather got more humid. Is this something I can handle myself with bleach from ACE, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai? If so, what’s a realistic price range to get a bedroom wall treated properly?

Visible mold on a wall, especially spreading behind furniture, indicates a moisture issue that must be addressed first. In Dubai's high humidity, this is commonly caused by condensation from an AC unit or a hidden leak.
Using bleach is not recommended. It is a surface-level treatment that may lighten the stain but will not kill the mold roots embedded in porous materials like drywall or plaster. It can also release harmful fumes into your indoor air. For a small, isolated patch (less than one square foot), a DIY approach with a dedicated mold remover and thorough drying can be effective. However, given that it's behind a wardrobe and has been spreading for some time, this suggests a larger, established colony. The wall cavity may be affected, which you cannot see or treat yourself. In this case, a professional inspection is strongly advised to identify and resolve the source of moisture and assess the full extent. Proper remediation involves containment, HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial treatment, and removing any irreparably damaged materials. Costs for professional remediation are not fixed and depend entirely on the square footage affected and the required corrective work. You should request an on-site assessment from a certified provider who can outline the scope and provide a transparent quote. The most critical step is fixing the underlying moisture problem; otherwise, the mold will return regardless of the treatment method. |
