Mold remediation cost and process for Dubai villa?« Back to Previous Page
|
My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's because of mold in our villa in Jumeirah. I just pulled out the sofa in the living room and found a huge patch of black mold on the wall behind it, probably from a slow AC leak we never noticed. I have no idea how to handle this or how much it costs. For a problem this big in Dubai, is it better to just hire a professional mold inspection company, and what should I expect to pay for the inspection and remediation?

For a large hidden infestation like this, especially with health symptoms present, professional inspection and remediation is strongly recommended. The Dubai climate creates ideal conditions for mold growth behind furniture or in wall cavities from unnoticed condensation or minor leaks.
A proper inspection should identify the moisture source (like that AC leak), assess the extent of growth within the wall, and provide a remediation plan. Expect the process to involve containment of the area to prevent spore spread, safe removal of contaminated materials like drywall or insulation, HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial treatment, and drying with industrial equipment. The final, crucial step is a post-remediation verification test to confirm the spore count inside the contained area has returned to acceptable levels. Cost is determined by the infestation's square footage, the depth of contamination (surface vs. inside walls), and the required containment level. For a significant wall patch, budgeting for a comprehensive professional job is advisable, as improper DIY can worsen spore dispersal. Reputable providers will offer a detailed assessment and quote based on the Dubai Municipality guidelines for environmental health and safety. Always request this detailed scope of work and ensure post-remediation verification is included. |
