Mold remediation cost in Jumeirah Village Circle?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle has been leaking a bit for a couple of months, but I just pulled back the corner of the bedroom carpet and found a patch of black mold about the size of a dinner plate underneath. I’m worried it’s spread further into the walls. What’s the realistic cost range for a professional mold remediation company here to handle something like this, and is it a complete rip-off to try and fix it myself with bleach?

A leak that's been active for months with visible mold under carpeting requires professional assessment. In Dubai's climate, with high humidity and constant AC use, moisture wicks into walls and subflooring quickly. What you see is often just the surface.

Costs vary significantly based on the extent of damage. For a dinner-plate-sized patch, you're likely looking at a project that includes removing the affected carpet section, treating the concrete slab beneath, and potentially cutting into the wall if the drywall or insulation behind the skirting board is wet. The final cost is driven by the square meters of material that need antimicrobial treatment and potential replacement, not just the initial visible spot. You must get a detailed inspection and scope-of-work quote; never accept a flat rate over the phone.

Using bleach is strongly discouraged. It's mostly water, which can feed further mold growth inside porous materials like concrete and drywall. It also only bleaches the surface color and does not kill the root structure (hyphae). For a proper remediation, the affected materials often need to be removed, the area contained with negative air pressure to prevent spores from spreading, and the remaining structure treated with EPA-approved, non-chlorine-based antimicrobial solutions.

Any reputable company should provide a post-remediation verification (PRV) report, often involving third-party testing, to confirm the space is within acceptable fungal spore levels. This is your proof the job was done correctly.
