Mold removal cost for small area in Dubai villa?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah Village Circle villa for two years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, behind some storage boxes. It seems to have spread a bit since the humidity really kicked in last month. I'm worried about it getting worse but have no idea what it costs to get it professionally removed here. Is this a job I can handle myself with bleach from Ace Hardware, or should I just call a company like MouldGuard, and what's a reasonable price range for a small area like this?

For a small, visible patch like this, DIY removal is possible if the area is less than one square meter and you have no respiratory sensitivities. A solution of one part bleach to four parts water can be effective on non-porous surfaces, but it only addresses surface growth and may not kill the roots in drywall. The key is identifying and stopping the moisture source—in a closet, this is often condensation from an exterior wall or a nearby AC duct sweating in the high humidity.

If the mold returns after cleaning or you discover more behind the drywall, a professional assessment is recommended. They can use moisture meters to find the exact source and ensure it's properly resolved. For a small, contained area, the cost is typically not a major project, but prices vary based on the extent of the hidden damage and the remediation method required. Always request a detailed assessment and quote that outlines the cause, the scope of work, and any post-remediation verification.
