Mold removal DIY or professional in Jumeirah?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, probably from a slow leak in the AC unit. It's spread to a few shoeboxes and the wall is about a meter wide. With the humidity creeping back up, I'm worried it will get worse. For a job this size in a Jumeirah Village Circle apartment, should I just buy a mold spray and handle it myself, or is it worth getting a professional quote and what would that likely cost?

For a meter-wide patch with spread to belongings, DIY is a high-risk choice. The visible mold is only part of the issue; the moisture source must be identified and fixed, which often requires tracing the AC drain line or checking for condensation inside the wall. In Dubai's humidity, incomplete removal leads to rapid regrowth.

Professional remediation is strongly advised here. They will contain the area to prevent spores from spreading, remove contaminated materials like the affected drywall and shoeboxes, and use HEPA filtration to clean the air. Crucially, they will find and address the root moisture problem—often a blocked AC drain pan or leaky pipe—which is essential for a permanent solution.

The cost for a job this size is typically not exorbitant, as it's a contained area. You are primarily paying for the diagnostic work to find the leak, proper containment protocols, and verification that the space is truly clean afterwards. For peace of mind and a guaranteed result, especially with the humidity rising, requesting a professional assessment is the most effective path.
