Mold returned after vinegar cleaning; call professional or DIY?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black, fuzzy mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet on the outer wall. It's been really humid lately and I think it might be from condensation. I tried wiping it with vinegar but it came back after a few days. Should I call a professional cleaning company or is there a stronger DIY solution I can try myself?

Vinegar's return means you've likely only addressed surface growth, not the underlying moisture source. In Dubai's high humidity, mold thrives on condensation within walls—especially on outer walls where cool AC air meets warm exterior surfaces. DIY solutions rarely resolve this permanently.

For a recurring patch, stop cleaning it and call a professional for an inspection. They'll use a moisture meter to identify the exact condensation point within the wall cavity, which is the real issue. A lab test can also confirm the mold type, though all indoor mold should be treated seriously.

If the moisture source is a simple leak, remediation may be straightforward. However, if it's persistent condensation from the temperature differential, it may require insulation upgrades—a common issue in villas here. Professional remediation ensures spores aren't spread during cleaning, which can worsen the problem.

For a small area, you could try a stronger solution like diluted bleach (1 part bleach to 3 parts water) with proper ventilation, but this is a temporary fix if the wall remains damp. The key is verifying and eliminating the moisture source first, which typically requires professional diagnostic tools.
