Need mold inpsection for closet in Dubai home« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet where we store our winter clothes. It's on the wall that faces the outside, and with all the humidity lately in Dubai, it seems to have gotten worse. I'm worried it's spreading behind the wardrobe. What's the best way to get a proper mold inspection done here, and should I be calling a regular cleaning company or a specialized firm?

Given the location on an exterior wall in Dubai's high humidity, this is a classic case of condensation-related mold growth, likely exacerbated by your AC system's operation. A regular cleaning company will only address the surface, potentially missing the root moisture issue.

For a proper inspection, you need a specialized firm that employs certified mold inspectors. They should use tools like thermal imaging cameras to detect moisture behind the wardrobe and borescopes to check inside walls without unnecessary damage. The critical step is comprehensive air and surface sampling, which must be analyzed by an accredited microbiology lab to identify the specific mold species and spore concentration levels in your indoor air. This data is essential to understand the actual health risk and to guide the correct remediation protocol.

Avoid any company that offers to both test and remediate the mold without providing a detailed, independent lab report first—this is a conflict of interest. The Dubai Municipality has guidelines for indoor air quality, and a reputable inspector will align their assessment with these standards.

Given the potential for hidden growth, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. You can then make an informed decision on remediation, which may involve moving the wardrobe, addressing the wall's insulation, and adjusting your AC's humidity settings to prevent recurrence.
