Need mold inspection for hidden moisture behind wall?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, behind some storage boxes. It seems to have gotten worse since the humidity kicked in last month. I'm worried it might be spreading inside the wall. Can anyone recommend a reliable and thorough mold inspection company that can also check for hidden moisture?

Based on your description, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. The combination of a two-year-old buildup and recent humidity suggests an active moisture source, and its location behind boxes increases the likelihood it has spread within the wall cavity.

In Dubai's climate, this is a common issue. Year-round AC use creates significant temperature differences between rooms and inside walls, leading to condensation where insulation or vapour barriers are inadequate. The recent humidity spike would have provided the final ingredient for rapid mould growth. A proper inspection should identify both the mould type and the exact moisture source—whether it's internal condensation, a hidden plumbing leak, or even seepage from an external wall.

Look for a provider that uses a combination of visual assessment, moisture meters to map dampness inside the wall, and thermal imaging to identify temperature differentials indicating wet insulation. For a case like this, avoid companies that only do a visual check or offer cleaning without diagnostics. The most credible inspectors will be able to explain the science behind their findings and will recommend a lab analysis of a surface or air sample to identify the species, which dictates the appropriate remediation protocol. This is a standard practice for science-led firms with their own microbiology capabilities.

You can verify their thoroughness by asking if their final report includes mapped moisture readings, thermal images, and specific identification of the water intrusion mechanism. Any recommendation should logically follow from the diagnostic data they present.
