Need professional for closet mold in wall, or DIY?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom closet in our Mirdif villa has developed black spots on the back wall, and the clothes inside have a really damp, mildewy smell that started right after that heavy humidity we had a couple of weeks ago. I tried wiping it down with vinegar, but it's clearly coming from inside the wall itself. Is this something I can handle myself with a dehumidifier and some bleach, or is this a job where I absolutely need to call in a professional mold remediation company, and if so, what's a rough cost I should expect for a single room?

Since the mold is growing from inside the wall and has a persistent musty smell, this is almost certainly a job for a professional. Vinegar or bleach only address surface mold you can see, but the colony's roots (hyphae) are inside the wall cavity, which will continue to release spores and regrow.

In a Dubai villa, this is typically caused by a hidden plumbing leak or, more commonly, condensation from the AC system. The recent high humidity likely exacerbated an existing moisture issue within the wall. A dehumidifier is a good preventative tool but cannot dry out a wall cavity or stop an active leak.

A professional inspection is critical to first identify and stop the moisture source. They will then need to open the affected wall to assess the full extent, remove contaminated materials like drywall and insulation, and perform specialized antimicrobial treatment. The cost for a single room can vary significantly based on the extent of the damage behind the wall and the required repairs. You should request an on-site assessment from a company with a certified mold remediator to get an accurate scope of work and quotation. Look for providers who use lab analysis to confirm the mold type and verify clearance after remediation.
