Need professional for recurring shower mold in humid climate?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah apartment for 2 years and just noticed a small patch of black mold starting to form in the corner of the shower where the grout meets the tiles. I’ve been wiping it away, but it keeps coming back within a week, and now there's a persistent damp smell. Given the humidity here, is this something I need to get a professional to handle urgently, or can I tackle it myself with a good cleaning product?

Based on the conditions you've described in your Jumeirah apartment, I would strongly recommend a professional inspection. The recurring growth and persistent damp smell are key indicators that this is not a surface-level issue. In Dubai's climate, with its high humidity and constant use of air conditioning, what you see on the grout is often just the visible tip of the iceberg. The mold's root system (hyphae) has likely penetrated the porous grout and could be thriving within the wall cavity behind the tiles, fueled by a potential hidden moisture source like a tiny pipe leak or inadequate waterproofing.

Wiping it away only temporarily removes the spores; it does not address the moisture problem or kill the embedded root structure. Over-the-counter cleaning products are often ineffective against established colonies and can sometimes exacerbate the problem by providing additional moisture. Furthermore, improper cleaning can aerosolize toxic mold spores, spreading them throughout your apartment's AC system and potentially impacting indoor air quality.

For a permanent solution, a professional assessment is crucial. Our certified inspectors use tools like moisture meters and borescopes to identify the exact moisture source and extent of the growth. Remediation would involve isolating the area, removing the contaminated grout, treating the substrate with professional-grade biocides, and reinstating a mold-resistant seal. This is the only way to ensure the problem is resolved at its source.

Given the health risks and potential for structural damage, I advise against a DIY approach. Please contact our team for a comprehensive inspection. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an assessment.
