Need urgent mold inspection in Dubai for closet spots?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed some small black spots appearing in the corner of our master bedroom closet where we store our winter clothes. It’s on the wall that faces the outside, and with the humidity lately, I’m worried it’s spreading. How urgently do I need to get a professional mold inspection here in Dubai, or is this something I can handle myself first?

Black spots in a closet on an exterior wall are a classic sign of condensation-related mould growth, which is extremely common in Dubai's climate. The high humidity, combined with cool air from AC units meeting warm exterior walls, creates the perfect environment for mould.

You should address this urgently, within the next week. Mould can spread quickly in these conditions, potentially damaging your belongings and affecting indoor air quality. For a small, isolated area (less than one square meter), you can attempt to clean it yourself with a vinegar or diluted hydrogen peroxide solution, wearing a mask and gloves. However, since it's on a porous surface like drywall and you're concerned about spreading, a professional inspection is the most reliable course of action.

A proper inspection by a company with a microbiology lab doesn't just identify visible mould; it uses moisture meters to find the source of the water intrusion and air or surface sampling to determine the spore count and species. This is crucial because it tells you if the mould is confined to that spot or has become airborne, potentially affecting other areas. They can also verify if the issue is due to a lack of insulation in the exterior wall, a common construction oversight here.

The goal is to fix the moisture source, not just remove the visible growth, to prevent it from returning. In many cases, improving ventilation in the closet and addressing the thermal bridging in the wall is the long-term solution.
