Permanent fix for black mold in Dubai bathroom shower?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our villa in Al Barsha for about five years, and the grout in our master bathroom shower has turned completely black with mold. It’s gotten much worse since the humid weather started a couple of months ago. I've tried scrubbing it with bleach, but it just comes back a week later. For a permanent fix, should I hire a professional cleaning company, and what would a reasonable cost be for regrouting and sealing a standard-sized shower here in Dubai?

Black mold in shower grout is extremely common in Dubai due to the high humidity and condensation from year-round AC use, which creates a constant damp environment. Bleach only removes surface discoloration and does not address the root cause, which is moisture penetrating the porous grout and the mold growing within it.

For a permanent fix, professional intervention is necessary. A thorough cleaning and disinfection using specialized antimicrobial agents can remove the biological growth. However, if the mold has deeply penetrated, the only permanent solution is to have the old grout removed and replaced with a new, high-quality, mold-resistant grout. This must then be meticulously sealed with a penetrating sealant to create a moisture barrier.

The cost for this service depends entirely on the shower's size, the extent of the damage, and the materials used. For an accurate assessment, you should request a site inspection from a certified provider. A reputable company will not just clean but will diagnose the moisture source and provide a detailed scope of work and a fixed-price quote for the remediation and regrouting. Always ensure they are compliant with Dubai Municipality standards for waste disposal and chemical use.
