Persistent black shower mold: DIY or professional in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page
|
My bathroom's grout in the shower has been getting these black spots for a couple of months now, and no matter how much I scrub with bleach spray, it just comes back within a week. It’s the bathroom my kids use, and with the humidity lately, it feels like a losing battle.
Is this something I can tackle myself with a stronger product, or do I need to call in a professional cleaning service here in Dubai?

Black spots in shower grout are almost always mold, and in Dubai's high humidity, it's a constant battle. Bleach only removes surface discoloration but doesn't kill the root structure penetrating porous grout.
For a DIY approach, skip bleach. Use a dedicated fungicidal cleaner designed for bathrooms, scrubbing it into the grout and letting it sit for the recommended dwell time. After cleaning, improving ventilation is critical. Run the bathroom exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after every shower and wipe down wet surfaces to remove standing water. Resealing the grout annually can also create a protective barrier. If the mold returns within a week despite these efforts, the issue is likely deeper. Persistent, rapid regrowth suggests a moisture problem behind the tiles or within the wall cavity, which DIY cleaning cannot address. In these cases, and especially because it's a children's bathroom, a professional assessment is recommended. They can identify the moisture source and determine if the grout or underlying substrate needs remediation to resolve it permanently. |
