Removing black mold myself or call professional in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a large patch of black mold behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom, probably from a hidden AC condensation leak. It’s spread across a section of the wall about a meter wide and has a really strong, damp smell. Is this something I can handle myself with products from ACE, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold removal company, and what should I expect to pay for a job like this?

A hidden leak causing a meter-wide patch with a strong odor is a serious case that requires a professional. In Dubai's climate, the high humidity and constant AC use mean the moisture source is likely significant and the mold has penetrated beyond the surface.

DIY cleaning from ACE with bleach or vinegar is a temporary fix for small surface spots. For a large infestation like this, surface cleaning often misses the root cause inside the wall. Disturbing it yourself also risks spreading a high concentration of spores throughout your home, which can be a health hazard. The strong smell indicates active microbial growth that needs proper diagnosis.

You need a professional inspection first to identify the exact moisture source (like the AC condensate drain line) and the full extent of the contamination inside the wall cavity. Proper remediation involves containment to prevent cross-contamination, safe removal of affected porous materials like drywall, HEPA vacuuming, and antimicrobial treatment. The final cost depends entirely on the investigation's findings, but for a job of this suspected scale involving demolition and reconstruction, expect a professional assessment and remediation to be a significant investment. Always request a detailed scope of work and verification that the job is complete with post-remediation testing.
