Removing mold from Jumeirah villa wall myself or call professional?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our wardrobe, probably from the last time we had some humidity. I’m worried it’s making my allergies worse, but I'm not sure if it's something I can tackle with bleach and vinegar myself or if I need to call one of those professional mold removal companies in Dubai. What’s the best way to handle this?

Black mold spreading behind a wardrobe in a Jumeirah villa is a common issue here, primarily driven by our high humidity and condensation from AC units. It's very likely contributing to your allergy symptoms.
For a small patch (under one square foot), a DIY approach can be effective. Wear an N95 mask and gloves. A solution of distilled white vinegar is often more effective than bleach at killing the mold and preventing regrowth. Scrub the area thoroughly and ensure it is completely dried. However, this only addresses the surface growth you can see. Given the location—behind a wardrobe where air circulation is poor—the mold has likely penetrated the plasterboard or paint. DIY methods won't address this root moisture source or hidden growth within the wall cavity. The persistent Dubai climate will cause it to return. For a recurring or spreading issue of this size, a professional assessment is strongly recommended. They will identify the exact moisture source (often condensation from an AC supply line or a minor leak) and use moisture meters to determine the extent of the damage. Remediation typically involves isolating the area, removing contaminated porous materials like drywall, and treating the space with professional-grade biocides. A proper fix ensures the underlying cause is resolved to prevent it from coming back, which is critical in our environment. |
