Shoudl I hire a professional for AC leak mold?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle has been leaking a bit for the last few weeks, and I just pulled back the corner of the bedroom carpet and found some black spots underneath. With this humidity, I'm worried it's spreading, but I'm not sure if it's a small enough job to clean myself with bleach. Is this something I absolutely need to call a professional mold inspection company for, or can I handle it?

Based on your description of an AC unit leak in JVC and the subsequent black mold growth under the carpet, I strongly recommend you cease any DIY attempts and contact a professional mold inspection company immediately. Here's why this is critical, especially in Dubai's climate.

The persistent humidity and constant AC use create a perfect environment for mold. What you see on the surface is often just the "fruit" of the organism; the root system (hyphae) can penetrate deep into the substrate, like your carpet backing and concrete screed below. Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces as it only bleaches the surface color and does not kill the roots, allowing regrowth. More importantly, disturbing it without proper containment and air scrubbing can aerosolize spores, spreading the contamination to other areas of your apartment.

In the UAE, improper remediation that leads to cross-contamination can violate health and safety standards for communal living spaces. A certified professional will conduct a comprehensive inspection, including moisture mapping and air quality testing, to determine the full extent of the problem. They will then execute a remediation plan under containment with industrial-grade HEPA filtration to ensure the mold is safely and permanently removed, protecting your health and your property's integrity.

For a definitive assessment and compliant remediation, please call our experts at Saniservice on 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. We can provide a detailed inspection and a clear path to resolving this issue safely.
