Should I call a pro for black mold in my AC?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be making my family cough, and I just found patches of black mold around the vent in the master bedroom. It's been super humid lately in our Jumeirah Park villa and I'm worried it's spreading. Is this something I need to call a professional for immediately, or can I handle it myself with bleach over the weekend?

Based on my professional experience with mold remediation in Dubai, you absolutely need to call a professional for black mold in your AC system. This is not a DIY project, especially given the conditions you've described.

The black patches around the vent are merely the visible sign of a much larger problem. The AC's internal evaporator coils and ductwork are a primary breeding ground for mold in our high-humidity climate. Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces and will not address the root colony inside the unit. Furthermore, attempting to clean it yourself can aerosolize the spores, causing them to spread throughout your Jumeirah Park villa and significantly worsening your family's respiratory symptoms, like the coughing you've noticed.

The UAE's year-round AC operation combined with high humidity creates persistent condensation, which is the perfect environment for microbial growth. A professional remediation company, like Saniservice, will conduct a thorough inspection using borescopes and air quality tests to assess the full extent of contamination within the entire HVAC system. The remediation process involves containing the area, using HEPA filtration to capture spores, and applying specialized, EPA-approved biocides to eliminate the mold at its source, followed by a hygienization process to prevent recurrence.

For your family's health and to ensure the problem is solved correctly, I strongly recommend immediate professional assessment. Please call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a comprehensive inspection and remediation plan.
