Should I call a pro for recurring black mold?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, behind some storage boxes. It’s on the wall and it’s been really humid lately in our Jumeirah villa. I wiped it with some bleach water but it came back after a few days. Should I call a professional company to deal with this or is there a stronger DIY solution I can try first?

Recurring black mold after a bleach wipe indicates a deeper moisture issue that DIY solutions cannot resolve. Bleach only removes surface discoloration on porous materials like drywall or concrete; it does not kill the root structure of the mold, nor does it address the underlying cause of the moisture. In Dubai's high humidity, especially in enclosed spaces like closets, the problem will almost certainly return.
The return of the mold suggests a persistent source of water. In a Jumeirah villa, this is often due to condensation from an AC supply line running inside the wall, a small plumbing leak, or moisture wicking through the concrete from the ground or a poorly sealed exterior. The humidity accelerates this process. For a recurring patch, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. They will use moisture meters and thermal imaging to locate the exact source of the dampness hidden within the wall cavity. Simply cleaning without fixing the water source is ineffective. Remediation involves correcting the moisture issue, then properly removing and disposing of the contaminated porous materials, as per DHA and DM guidelines, followed by HEPA vacuuming and antimicrobial treatment of the area. Attempting a stronger DIY chemical is not advisable, as it exposes you to harsh fumes without guaranteeing a result. The most effective first step is to move those storage boxes away from the wall to improve air circulation, which can help slow the spread while you arrange for an assessment. Given the climate and the recurrence, a professional diagnosis is the most reliable path to a permanent solution. |
