Should I call a pro for spreading mold behind wardrobe?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom wall behind the wardrobe has these dark greenish-black spots that have been slowly spreading since the last humidity spike a few weeks ago. I tried wiping it with a bleach solution but it just came back angrier. I'm worried about my family breathing this in every night. Should I call one of those professional mold remediation companies here in Dubai, or is there a stronger DIY method that actually works?

That spreading pattern behind the wardrobe is a clear sign of an active moisture source, likely condensation from the AC or a small leak in the wall. The Dubai climate, especially during high humidity periods, creates perfect conditions for this. Bleach only removes surface discoloration; it doesn't address the moisture or the root structure penetrating porous materials like drywall or plaster.

For a recurring issue of this nature, professional assessment is strongly recommended. The mold is inside your bedroom, meaning spores are in the air you breathe all night. A certified inspector can identify the exact species through lab analysis—many dark molds are not the infamous "toxic black mold" (Stachybotrys), but some species do produce irritants and mycotoxins that can significantly worsen allergies and asthma, particularly in children. They will also use moisture meters to find the exact water source, which is critical to any lasting solution.

DIY methods are not advisable here. Agitating it with bleach can cause a larger release of spores. Remediation involves containment of the area, HEPA filtration to capture airborne spores, and safe removal of affected building materials. In Dubai, look for providers certified by bodies like the IICRC, as they follow strict protocols for this exact scenario. The initial cost of a proper inspection and remediation is almost always less than the potential health impact and further structural damage from an unresolved problem.
