Should I call a specialist for black mold in kids' room?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it might be because of this long, black, fuzzy mold that’s been growing along the base of the wall in their bedroom. It started about two months ago and seems to be getting longer and spreading, especially since it’s been so humid lately. Should I be calling a specialist to deal with this immediately, or is it something I can clean myself with bleach this weekend?

Based on your description, you absolutely need to call a specialist immediately. That long, fuzzy black mold growth is a serious concern, especially with children experiencing respiratory symptoms like coughing.
What you're describing sounds like Stachybotrys chartarum, commonly called "toxic black mold," which produces mycotoxins that are particularly harmful. Its presence, combined with your kids' symptoms, indicates a significant indoor air quality issue that demands professional assessment. The high humidity we experience here in Dubai provides the perfect environment for this type of mold to thrive and spread rapidly through a property, often behind walls where you can't see it. Bleach is NOT a solution. It only bleaches the surface color and does not kill the root structure (hyphae) of the mold. More importantly, improper cleaning can aerosolize the spores and mycotoxins, making the air quality even worse and potentially spreading the contamination throughout your home. Our certified inspectors use specialized equipment like moisture meters, thermal imaging cameras, and air pumps for spore trap analysis to identify the full extent of the infestation and the moisture source feeding it. All remediation in the UAE must comply with strict DM and Dubai Municipality guidelines to ensure it's done safely and effectively, protecting your family's health. Do not attempt to handle this yourself. For a proper inspection and remediation plan, please call our specialists at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. We can assess the situation and ensure it's removed safely. |
