Should I call for mold inspection in my Dubai villa?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived in our villa in Jumeirah for 2 years and just noticed some black spots spreading in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on an interior wall. It’s been extra humid lately and the room has started to smell a bit damp and earthy. Should I be calling someone to inspect this immediately, or is it something I can clean myself and just keep an eye on?

Yes, you should call for a professional mold inspection. The black spots spreading on an interior wall, combined with the damp smell, strongly suggest an active moisture issue that isn't just surface-level. In Dubai's high humidity, especially during summer and the recent foggy mornings, condensation can form inside walls if there's a slight temperature differential or a hidden leak from plumbing or AC drain lines.

Attempting to clean visible mold yourself is often ineffective because you're only addressing the symptom, not the source. The moisture wicking into that closet wall from inside the structure will cause it to return. A proper inspection uses moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to find the exact source of water intrusion behind the wall. This is critical, as the visible growth is often just a fraction of the actual problem.

For a villa in Jumeirah, common culprits are AC condensate drain blockages leaking into walls or minor seepage from recent humidity. A professional can identify this and recommend the correct remediation, which may involve accessing the wall cavity. They should also provide a lab analysis to identify the mold species, which informs the safety protocols needed for removal. Addressing the root cause is the only way to prevent it from recurring.
