Should I clean apartment mold myself or hire a pro?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from this patch of black mold I just found in the back of our bedroom wardrobe. We've lived in this apartment in Al Barsha for 2 years and just noticed it, probably from all the humidity lately. The wall behind it feels slightly damp and cold to the touch. Should I handle cleaning this myself with vinegar or is this a job for a professional cleaning company here in Dubai?

Based on your description, this situation warrants a professional inspection and is not a candidate for DIY remediation. The presence of persistent dampness, a cold wall, and associated health symptoms in your children are significant red flags.

In Dubai's climate, where high humidity and year-round AC use are the norm, that cold spot indicates a serious condensation issue or a potential breach in the building's thermal envelope. This is a common problem in apartments here, often leading to hidden mold growth within wall cavities that DIY methods cannot address. The patch you see is likely just the visible portion of a larger colony.

Cleaning surface mold with vinegar is ineffective for a persistent damp problem and can actually aerosolize spores, potentially worsening your family's respiratory irritation. Proper remediation requires isolating the area, using HEPA filtration to capture spores, and addressing the underlying moisture source—something only a certified professional can guarantee.

We strongly recommend you cease any DIY attempts and contact a certified mold inspector. At Saniservice, our Dubai Municipal-approved experts use thermal imaging cameras to identify the exact moisture source and extent of contamination. We provide a detailed report and a remediation plan compliant with local regulations.
