Should I clean mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy rain we experienced last month, I noticed a suspicious black growth starting to form on the ceiling of my bedroom. It’s not a lot yet, maybe about 10 inches in diameter, but it’s definitely there and growing. I’m worried it could be mold and am unsure if I can handle cleaning it myself or if I need professional help. Should I try cleaning it now before it gets worse, or is it better to call someone?

The suspicious black growth you're noticing could indeed be mold, and given the recent heavy rains we experienced here in Dubai, it's understandable to feel concerned. Mold can pose health risks, especially for those with allergies or respiratory issues, making proper identification and remediation crucial.

Firstly, it is important to understand that while small areas of mold growth might seem manageable, it’s generally advisable to seek professional assistance due to the potential health impacts and regulations in place in Dubai. The UAE, including Dubai, has specific guidelines regarding indoor air quality and mold management which may require professional handling for safety reasons.

If you decide to attempt a preliminary inspection yourself, wear protective gear such as gloves and mask, and use a moisture meter or hygrometer to check the humidity levels around the affected area. High humidity can exacerbate mold growth, so addressing this issue is critical in preventing further spread.

However, given the potential for the mold to be actively growing and possibly spreading, it would be prudent to call in professional assistance as soon as possible. Our company, Saniservice, offers comprehensive mold inspection and remediation services tailored specifically for Dubai's climatic conditions. We recommend calling 800-MOLDS or sending an email to hello@saniservice.com.

Professional inspectors will conduct a thorough assessment of the affected area, identify the type of mold present (important as some types are more harmful than others), and provide you with a detailed remediation plan. This could include methods such as moisture removal, proper cleaning procedures, and in some cases, encapsulation or replacement of contaminated materials.

In addition to professional help, make sure to maintain good indoor air quality by ensuring adequate ventilation and addressing any water damage promptly. Regularly checking for signs of mold growth and keeping humidity levels under control can significantly reduce the risk of future infestations.

Remember, while DIY solutions might seem cost-effective in the short term, they often fail to address the root cause effectively, potentially leading to recurrent issues or health problems down the line. By taking a proactive approach and seeking professional guidance, you can ensure both immediate safety and long-term protection for your home.
