Should I clean mold myself or call a professional?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for the past few weeks, and I've just noticed a small patch of black speckles in the corner of our master bedroom closet where we store our winter clothes. We live in a villa in Jumeirah and I’m worried the recent humidity made it worse. Is this something I can clean myself with bleach or do I need to call a professional mold inspection company to check the walls?

Based on the symptoms you've described—persistent coughing in children and visible black speckled growth in a closet—this is a situation that warrants a professional mold inspection, not a DIY cleaning attempt.

The high humidity levels in Dubai, particularly in coastal areas like Jumeirah, create a perfect environment for mold. The issue is often systemic, originating from hidden sources like condensation within your AC ducts, minor plumbing leaks inside walls, or moisture trapped from the villa's construction. A small visible patch is frequently just the tip of the iceberg. Bleach is a superficial solution; it only removes the surface discoloration but does not address the root moisture problem or kill the hyphae (the root-like structures) of the mold. Furthermore, improper cleaning can aerosolize the spores, worsening the air quality and potentially causing more severe health reactions, especially in children.

Our standard protocol involves a comprehensive inspection using moisture meters, thermal imaging cameras, and air quality pumps to identify all contamination sources and hidden colonies. Air and surface samples are sent to an accredited lab to identify the mold species and spore concentration, which is critical for determining the appropriate remediation strategy and for health assessment.

For the safety of your family, I strongly recommend a professional assessment. Our certified team at Saniservice is equipped to handle this. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule a detailed inspection of your villa.
