Should I DIY bathroom mold or call a pro in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

Our bathroom's ceiling, especially around the AC vent, has started getting these black mold spots. I tried wiping it with bleach, but it came back worse after just a couple of days. I'm in a villa in Mirdif and it seems to get really damp after all the long showers. Is this something I can tackle myself with a stronger cleaner, or do I need to call in a professional mold remediation company here in Dubai?

Recurring bathroom mold, especially around AC vents, often points to a humidity issue rather than just a surface cleaning problem. In Dubai's climate, with high humidity and constant AC use creating significant condensation, bleach typically only removes surface discoloration. The underlying mold roots remain and can return stronger, as you've seen.
For a small, isolated spot, a DIY approach using a dedicated mold remover (not bleach) and improving ventilation can work. However, since the mold is on the ceiling and returning near the AC vent, a professional assessment is wise. This could indicate a problem with the AC drain line or insufficient insulation, causing excessive condensation inside the ceiling void. In many Dubai villas, the bathroom's AC unit is part of a larger system. A pro can check if the drain pan is clogged or if the ductwork itself is contaminated, spreading spores. They will identify and address the moisture source first, which is the only way to prevent recurrence. For extensive or recurring growth, remediation that includes antimicrobial treatment and addressing the humidity source is needed for a long-term solution. |
