Should I evacuate due to green growth?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy rains last month, I noticed a strange greenish growth on the ceiling of my master bedroom. The smell is musty and it's gotten stronger over the past few days, even when no one has been in the room. How urgent should I be about this? Is it safe to stay here until I can get someone to check it out or do we need to vacate immediately?

It sounds like you're dealing with a potentially serious situation. The greenish growth and musty smell are strong indicators of mold, which can pose health risks especially if it's been growing undetected for some time.

In the uae/dubai region, we adhere to strict regulations regarding indoor air quality and safety standards. Mold in residential areas is not only a nuisance but also a cause for concern due to its potential impact on your family’s health. The presence of mold, particularly if it's spreading or emitting strong odors, suggests that there might be an underlying moisture issue which needs immediate attention.

Firstly, do not attempt to clean the area yourself unless you have professional guidance. Mold remediation requires specific knowledge and equipment to prevent further spread and ensure complete removal. In Dubai, we recommend calling 800-MOLDS or sending an email to hello@saniservice.com for a professional inspection. They will come out and assess the situation properly.

The urgency of your action depends on several factors:
• The extent of mold growth: If it's covering more than 10 square meters, immediate attention is advised.
• Whether there are signs of moisture such as water stains or damp spots.
• The health status of anyone living in the house—children, elderly people, and those with allergies or respiratory issues should be closely monitored.

If you decide to stay until a professional can check it out:
1. Ensure good ventilation by opening windows if possible (while keeping an eye on humidity levels).
2. Do not use air conditioning units or dehumidifiers that might spread the spores.
3. Avoid touching or disturbing the affected area to prevent further contamination.

Remember, mold can produce allergens and irritants, and in some cases, it can trigger asthma attacks. Therefore, it's important to take action promptly rather than waiting. Professional remediation will not only address the visible growth but also deal with any hidden moisture issues that might be contributing to its presence.

Do not hesitate to act quickly; your health and safety are paramount.
