Should I get a mold inspection for black bedroom spots?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing non-stop for the past month, and my own allergies are going crazy. I’ve just noticed a patch of black spots spreading along the corner of our bedroom wall behind the wardrobe, which is right next to the AC vent. We’re in an older building in Deira and I’m really worried this is the cause. Should I get a professional mold inspection, or is this something maintenance can handle?

Based on your description, you absolutely need a professional mold inspection, and this is not a job for general building maintenance. The combination of persistent respiratory symptoms in your children, your allergies, and the visual confirmation of black spots spreading from an area near an AC vent is a major red flag.

In the UAE's humid climate, especially in older buildings in areas like Deira, this scenario is common. The AC vent is a critical clue; it could indicate a condensation issue within the ductwork itself, spreading mold spores throughout the room every time the system runs. A proper inspection involves more than just looking at the visible patch. Our certified technicians use tools like moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to find the hidden source of the moisture, and we take air and surface samples to identify the specific type of mold. This is crucial because some species, like Stachybotrys (often called "black mold"), can produce mycotoxins that are linked to the health issues you're describing.

General maintenance will likely just wipe the visible mold away with bleach, which doesn't address the root moisture problem and can actually aggravate the spores, making the air quality worse. DIY attempts are strongly discouraged due to the health risks and potential for cross-contamination.

For your family's health and to properly solve the problem, you need a certified assessment. Please give our team a call at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule a comprehensive inspection.
