Should I get a mold inspection now or wait?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom in our villa in Jumeirah always feels damp, and we've started noticing small black spots along the bottom of the wall behind the wardrobe. It's been like this for a couple of months but got worse after the heavy dew this winter. Is this something I need to get professionally inspected immediately, or can it wait until the summer?

Those black spots and the persistent dampness indicate a professional inspection is warranted now, not later. In Dubai's climate, what you see is often just the surface manifestation of a larger problem within the wall cavity, especially after a humid period that promotes condensation.

The wall behind a wardrobe is a classic trouble spot. The furniture traps humidity and restricts airflow, creating a microclimate where mould thrives on the organic material in plaster and dust. Given that it's been developing for months and worsened recently, the underlying moisture source needs to be identified—it could be a small plumbing leak, capillary rise from the foundation, or severe interstitial condensation.

Waiting until summer allows the colony to expand, potentially compromising the wall's integrity and making remediation more involved. A certified inspection will use moisture meters and thermal imaging to locate the source without destructive probing. They should also take air and surface samples for lab analysis to identify the species, as this determines the appropriate remediation protocol and any necessary health precautions. For a villa in Jumeirah, addressing this promptly is the most effective course of action.
