Should I get a mold inspector for black spots immediatly?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black spots in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on an exterior wall. It’s gotten a bit bigger over the last few weeks and has a really damp, earthy smell. With the humidity rising again, I'm worried it might spread quickly. Is this something I need to get a professional mold inspector to look at immediately, or can it wait a few weeks?

Yes, you should arrange for a professional mold inspection immediately. The combination of visible growth that is actively spreading and a distinct damp smell indicates an ongoing moisture issue that won't resolve itself. In Dubai's climate, high humidity, especially during summer months, can cause condensation on cooler exterior walls, creating the perfect environment for mold to thrive inside closets and behind furniture.

Waiting a few weeks allows the colony to expand, potentially releasing more spores into your bedroom's air and risking further structural damage. A certified inspector will use tools like moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to pinpoint the exact source of the moisture—whether it's a small condensation problem, a leak from within the wall, or HVAC-related humidity. They can also take samples for lab analysis to identify the species, which is critical for understanding any potential health risks and planning the correct remediation strategy. For a situation with active growth and odor, a professional assessment is the most reliable way to protect your property and health.
