Should I hire a pro for black mold or use bleach?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, behind some boxes. It’s on the wall that faces the outside, and with the humidity lately, it seems to be getting a bit bigger. My main worry is, with the AC running constantly, how urgent is it that we get this professionally removed, or can we handle it ourselves with bleach?

Based on the specifics you've described—a recurring black mold patch on an exterior wall in a high-humidity climate like Dubai—I strongly recommend against using bleach and advise seeking a professional inspection immediately.

Bleach is a superficial fix, especially on porous surfaces like drywall. It may bleach the visible discoloration on the surface, but it does not address the root cause: the moisture source. More critically, it will not kill the hyphae (the root-like structures) of the mold growing deep within the wall. The mold will almost certainly return, often more aggressively. In Dubai's climate, with constant AC use creating significant temperature differentials between indoor and outdoor environments, condensation within wall cavities is a common, hidden problem. Your exterior-facing wall is a prime candidate for this.

A professional assessment is urgent because what you see is often just the "tip of the iceberg." The moisture issue likely extends deeper, and the mold growth could be more widespread inside the wall. Our certified inspectors use tools like thermal imaging cameras and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact source of the moisture intrusion and assess the full extent of the contamination without unnecessary demolition.

For a permanent solution, the moisture source must be identified and rectified, followed by a proper containment and remediation process per industry standards (IICRC S520). This ensures spores are not spread throughout your home during cleaning. For a thorough inspection and a definitive remediation plan for your Dubai home, please contact our team at Saniservice.
