Should I hire a pro for recurring bathroom mold?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bathroom in our Jumeirah villa always has this damp feel to it, and now I’m seeing these black spots creeping up the grout between the wall tiles near the shower. We’ve tried cleaning it ourselves with bleach spray, but it just comes back within a couple of weeks. Is it worth calling a professional company for a proper fix, or is this something we can handle on our own with a better product?

Based on your description of a recurring issue in a Jumeirah villa, my professional recommendation is to absolutely hire a professional. The persistent dampness and black mold regrowth despite using bleach is a classic sign of a deeper, underlying issue that surface cleaning cannot address.

Bleach is largely ineffective on porous surfaces like grout; it only bleaches the visible surface mold while the hyphae (root structure) penetrates deep within the material. The constant dampness you feel points to a humidity problem, which in our UAE climate is often due to insufficient bathroom ventilation. High ambient humidity condenses on cool tile surfaces, creating the perfect breeding ground for mold.

A professional inspection is crucial. We use thermal imaging cameras to identify hidden moisture within walls and behind tiles that you cannot see. This is often caused by a failing waterproofing membrane or tiny cracks in the grout allowing moisture ingress into the wall cavity. Left untreated, this can lead to structural wood rot and compromise indoor air quality, which is a particular concern under the Dubai Municipality's public health and safety regulations.

For a proper fix, we don't just clean; we identify and rectify the moisture source, remove the contaminated grout, apply a new waterproofing system, and re-grout with antimicrobial additives. This is a permanent solution, not a temporary cover-up.
