Should I hire a pro for recurring closet mold?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet on the interior wall. The weird thing is, it’s only on that one wall and it seems to have appeared since the weather got really humid. I wiped it with vinegar but it came back in a few days. Is this something I can tackle myself with a stronger cleaner, or do I need to call a professional to check for a hidden leak?

Based on your description, this is a classic case of moisture intrusion, and I strongly recommend a professional inspection. Recurring mold after a DIY treatment is a significant red flag. In the UAE's high-humidity climate, especially with year-round AC use, this pattern almost always indicates an underlying issue that surface cleaning cannot resolve.

The location on an interior wall is particularly concerning. The source is likely not surface condensation but a concealed problem, such as a pinhole leak in a chilled water pipe within the wall cavity, a breach in the building's external vapor barrier, or interstitial condensation due to a lack of proper insulation. The vinegar wipe only addressed the visible colony, not the hidden moisture source or the microscopic spores, allowing rapid regrowth.

A certified professional, like our team at Saniservice, uses specialized tools—moisture meters, thermal imaging cameras, and borescopes—to non-invasively locate the exact moisture source behind the wall. This is critical to prevent structural damage and potential health issues. Remediation then involves controlled removal of affected materials, addressing the root cause, and applying professional-grade antimicrobial solutions to prevent recurrence.

For a definitive diagnosis and a permanent solution, do not attempt stronger cleaners. Contact our experts for a comprehensive assessment. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
