Should I hire a pro to remove shower mold in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed black mold spots creeping out from behind the silicone sealant in our shower. It’s in our master bathroom in a Jumeirah Village Circle apartment which doesn't get much sunlight. I tried a bleach spray but it came back worse after a couple of weeks. For a proper fix, should I just call a professional cleaning company, and what's a reasonable price in AED to get this sorted for a standard sized bathroom?

That black mold returning after a bleach spray is a classic sign of a deeper issue. Bleach only removes surface discoloration on non-porous surfaces but often fails to kill the root structure penetrating porous grout or behind the sealant. In Dubai’s high humidity, with constant condensation from showers and year-round AC use creating temperature differentials, the conditions for mold regrowth are ideal, especially in a low-sunlight bathroom.

For a proper fix, a professional is strongly recommended. The critical step they provide is the diagnostic phase: identifying the moisture source. It could be a tiny leak behind the tile, inadequate sealing, or poor ventilation. Without addressing this source, the mold will always return. A reputable service will first inspect to find the root cause, not just scrub the visible spots.

The remediation process should involve physically removing the contaminated silicone sealant, applying a EPA-approved, non-bleach fungicidal treatment to the affected area, and then resealing with a high-quality, mold-resistant silicone. This addresses the problem at its source.

Cost is variable and depends entirely on the extent of the work. A simple resealing job for a standard bathroom will be significantly less than a service that includes full surface disinfection, moisture mapping, and post-remediation verification. For an accurate assessment, it's best to request a detailed, on-site quote that breaks down the diagnostic, remediation, and prevention steps.
