Should I remove bedroom mold myself or call Dubai Marina management?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, right on the wall. It’s on the side that faces the outside of the building, and I’m worried the recent humidity made it worse. What’s the best way to get rid of this myself, or should I call my building management in Dubai Marina first?

For a small patch (less than one square foot) on a non-porous surface like a painted wall, you can clean it yourself. Use a solution of white vinegar or a diluted bleach mix (1 part bleach to 10 parts water), scrub the area, and ensure it is completely dry. Wear an N95 mask and gloves during cleaning.
However, since the mold is on an exterior wall in a Dubai Marina building, it's highly likely the root cause is external moisture intrusion or internal condensation from the high humidity. Cleaning the surface mold will only be a temporary fix if the underlying dampness isn't addressed. The persistent humidity here, especially with constant AC use creating temperature differentials, causes condensation within walls, which feeds mold growth. You should call your building management first. In Dubai, the responsibility for structural issues, including leaks or insulation failures in exterior walls, typically falls on the building owner or management. Report it to them with photos. They should send a technician to investigate the wall cavity for leaks or insufficient insulation, which is the only permanent solution. If the problem is widespread or you suspect hidden growth behind the wall, a professional inspection with moisture meters and thermal imaging can identify the full extent before any remediation begins. |
