Should I remove Jumeirah apartment mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived in our Jumeirah apartment for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner behind the wardrobe, probably from the AC condensation. I tried wiping it with vinegar, but the smell is still there and it seems to be spreading a bit. Is this something I can tackle myself with a stronger cleaner, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

The black mold behind your wardrobe is likely from AC condensation, a very common issue in Dubai's humid climate where AC systems run year-round and create perfect conditions for mold growth. If vinegar didn't work and the smell persists, it indicates the mold may be more established than surface-level.

For a patch smaller than one square meter, a thorough DIY approach can be attempted. Use a solution of diluted detergent or a dedicated mold cleaner, scrub the area, and ensure it is completely dry. However, the critical issue is addressing the moisture source. You must identify and fix the condensation leak from the AC unit; otherwise, the mold will return quickly.

Given that the mold is behind furniture and has a persistent smell, it's probable the growth extends into the wall or backing material. In such cases, and especially in multi-unit buildings like your Jumeirah apartment, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. They can use moisture meters and borescopes to assess the full extent of the damage hidden from view. Remediation often requires removing and replacing affected drywall or insulation to properly resolve the problem and prevent recurrence, which is not a typical DIY task.

A certified professional will also perform post-remediation verification to confirm the mold and moisture issues are fully resolved, which is the only way to guarantee the health of your indoor environment long-term.
